The answer to the question is yes, it can be an effective tool, but it is not the silver bullet. It is much more like a ocean swell: almost imperceptible rise, but powerful effects. Push marketing, like a Super Bowl ad, can have a huge impact, but it's very short term. So what makes social media successful?
There are three major components to a long-term social media strategy: frequency, substance, and engagement. Frequency builds a presence. Rich or useful content creates meaning. Finally, when you jump into the conversations people are having, that makes you relevant and influential.
